Coastal Neurology preparations for testing

Preparations for Testing

Below are the basic instructions our patients need to know and do before testing. If you are scheduled for one of the following tests in our office, please be sure to read and follow these instructions to ensure you can be tested without difficulty or delays. Be sure to take all your medications as prescribed prior to testing unless otherwise instructed by your physician.

  1. Please, BE SURE to wash your hair thoroughly the night before or the day of your appointment. Build-up of natural oils and particles in the hair may interfere with the test.
  2. Please, DO NOT apply any oils, lotions, butter, hair spray, mousse, gel or other hair products before the test. Leave hair clean and dry for testing.
  1. Please, ARRANGE for a driver to bring you to our office and take you home after the test. Operating a motor vehicle while in a sleep deprived state is dangerous.
  2. Please, BE SURE to eat a hearty breakfast before the test. This type of test is normally scheduled at 9am.
  3. Please, BE SURE to wash your hair thoroughly the day of your appointment. Build-up of natural oils and particles in the hair may interfere with the test.
  4. Please, DO NOT apply any oils, lotions, butter, hair spray, mousse, gel or other hair products before the test. Leave hair clean and dry for testing.
  5. Please, DO NOT get more than 4 hours of sleep the night prior to the test appointment.
  1. Please, DO NOT apply any oils, lotions, butter, perfumes or other products to your skin the day of the test. Doing so may interfere with proper application of the electrodes and alter the test results.
  1. Please, DO NOT wear any type of makeup – including skin-care creams, lotions, powders, perfumes, lipsticks, eye shadow, or concealer – on your facial area. Doing so will interfere with test results.
  2. Please, BE SURE to clean your ears, making sure your ear canals are clear and dry prior to testing.
  3. Please, DO NOT consume any food or beverage containing caffeine or alcohol – such as coffee, tea, cola, beer, wine, or chocolate – for 12 hours prior to your appointment.
  4. Please, DO NOT Eat or Drink anything for 4 hours before your appointment, unless you have a medical condition, such as diabetes, which prevents fasting. Discuss any such condition with your physician.
  1. Please, BE SURE to get a good night’s sleep the night prior to testing.
